How the Process Works

1. Schedule a confidential telehealth consultation

You’ll begin with a secure video or phone appointment with one of our experienced clinicians. During your consultation, we’ll review your health history, confirm how far along you are, and answer all your questions about the process.

If you’re eligible for the abortion pill, our provider will explain exactly how it works and what to expect.

2. Choose delivery or in-clinic pickup

Once approved, you’ll have two convenient options for receiving your medication:

  • By mail: Your medication is sent directly to your home in discreet packaging. Most patients receive it within a few days after their consultation.
  • Clinic pickup: If you prefer, you may come to our clinic to pick up your prescription in person. This can be helpful if you’d like to speak briefly with our staff or get additional supplies before beginning at home.

3. Complete the process at home

You’ll take the first medication as directed, followed by the second 24–48 hours later. We’ll provide complete, easy-to-follow instructions to guide you through every step. Most people experience cramping and bleeding similar to a heavy period, which means the abortion is in progress.
You’ll have access to our team by phone if you have any concerns or questions at any point.

4. Follow-up care

After the process is complete you’ll have a follow-up appointment, either by telehealth or in person, to confirm that the abortion is complete and you’re feeling well. We’ll also discuss next steps for your health, including birth control options if desired.

Is the Abortion Pill by Mail Right for Me?

The abortion pill by mail is a great option for most patients who:

  • Are up to 11 weeks pregnant based on the first day of their last menstrual period.
  • Have reliable internet or phone access for telehealth visits.
  • Are able to receive mail at a secure address or pick up the medication in person.
  • Do not have certain medical conditions that would require an in-clinic procedure (our provider will discuss this during your consultation).

If your pregnancy is beyond 11 weeks or you prefer to have your abortion completed in the clinic, we also offer in-office procedures with the same level of care and support.

What to Expect When Taking the Abortion Pill

The abortion pill process uses two different pills: one that stops the pregnancy from growing, and another that causes the uterus to empty. Most patients begin bleeding and cramping within a few hours of taking the second medication, and the process usually takes several hours to complete.

Our team provides instructions for pain relief, comfort measures, and when to contact us if something doesn’t feel right. Some patients like to have a friend or partner nearby for support, but that’s entirely up to you.

Afterward, you may continue to have light bleeding for a week or two. We’ll check in with you to confirm the abortion is complete and answer any follow-up questions.

Our Commitment to Your Care

At Her Choice Women’s Clinic, your safety, privacy, and well-being come first. Whether you choose to receive your medication by mail or prefer to pick it up in person, you’ll receive the same professional care and judgment-free support from our team.

Every step, from your consultation to your follow-up, is designed to keep you informed, comfortable, and supported. We’re here to answer questions, address concerns, and make sure you have the care you need, your way.

Frequently Asked Questions

Most importantly, because we are a real, physical, brick and mortar abortion clinic with vast experience in abortion care and the abortion pill for over 15 years locally in California. Most other online services do not have our vast knowledge and experience, and do not have a physical clinic that can help you if you end up needing to be seen in person, which although rare, is sometimes necessary. In addition, your care is provided by a Board Certified Ob / Gyn physician with over 25 years experience in abortion care and over 15 years experience with the abortion pill, not by a lower level medical provider such as a nurse, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant.

We are a real, physical, abortion clinic with decades of experience and expertise, staffed by a Board Certified abortion specialist physician.

.

The abortion pill is a highly effective, convenient, and safe method to terminate a pregnancy. The protocol we use consists of the combination of 2 medications used in combination 24 hours apart: Mifeprex followed by Misoprostol. This is the FDA approved protocol with the highest effectiveness, approximately 95-98% effective.

We have been providing abortion care in California for over 15 years, and our physician, Dr A G Nasseri has been in practice and providing abortion care for over 25 years. We have extensive experience with the abortion pill, and have provided it for thousands of our patients over more than 15 years. Our experience has shown it to be highly effective and safe.

Although we provide the surgical abortion service as well, experience has shown us that the abortion pill is less risky since it is not invasive. If you are early in the pregnancy (less than 10 weeks from the first day of your last menstrual period), and have no other medical reason that prevents you from taking the pill, then the abortion pill may be the best and safest method of termination.

We are now happy to bring our services to our California patients remotely by Telehealth, and to make the abortion pill available to many more women that are unable to easily visit us in person. By making the abortion pill accessible remotely, we hope to allow more women to have this convenient termination option available to them from the comfort and privacy of their home.

If it is inconvenient and prohibitive to take time out to come in to our clinic whether for personal or work reasons, or if the travel distance is large and we are not easily accessible for you, then it makes sense to access our care remotely and have the pills mailed to you instead.

Simply fill out our step by step online questionnaire that screens to see if you are indeed a candidate to receive the pills by mail. Your answers will reveal whether or not you will most likely qualify for the pills. If your answers fit the qualification standards, your information will be collected and sent to our physician for review. After review, our physician will contact you by phone to go over your health history and answer any questions. Then the medications will be mailed to you.

Most importantly, you have to be under 10 weeks by ultrasound or by your last menstrual period. The pills are FDA approved for pregnancy termination and effective only until 10 weeks of gestation. Also, you won’t qualify if you have or suspect you have an ectopic pregnancy, an IUD in place, have a bleeding disorder, take blood thinners or steroid medications, among certain other medical conditions. Of course, each patient is a different individual, and that’s why our physician will ultimately review your health history and confer with you live by phone before making the final determination of whether you qualify.

Unfortunately not. We are currently licensed to provide care only in California.

Of course, if you prefer to have an in person clinic visit instead, or prefer to terminate using the surgical method, we are happy to help you with that as well. Call us at 714-966-9094 to schedule an in-person clinic appointment.

We are happy to help you whether you prefer your care remotely from home, or whether you want to come in to be seen in person.

We are located in Southern California, Orange County, in the city of Santa Ana.
